Stepping Up Your Game: Hardware and Software Upgrades For Your Analytical Labs
You’d have probably heard of the adage, change is the only constant. Whether you want it or not, change is inevitable. Take, for instance, the analytical lab of one of our seasoned customers functioned independently of other business verticals, including the customer IT team. However, change found the Lab team soon enough. The customer IT team decided that it would make sense to integrate the instruments with the rest of the business’ IT setup, for smoother functioning. Once integrated, it would allow them to simplify the process of maintenance and updates, data centralization, and security policies.
You’d think that it would be a straightforward process for them, where they’d just click on the update button and their system would become up to speed with the rest of the IT setup. Alas, it’s much more than a mobile Operating System update.
That’s where we stepped in. Through our comprehensive hardware and software upgrade services, we were not only able to upgrade their systems, but also migrate all data to the new software and build a bridge with the rest of the IT setup.
Wondering how we went about it? Here’s how.
Our Process
For any system update, we at Gulf Bio Analytical (GBA) have devised a step-by-step process to ensure that the transition is hassle-free and effective.
Step 1: The Evaluation
Have you ever struggled with your Mac or your phone after an Operating System upgrade? That happens because some of the upgrades are not compatible with older machines. As a result, these upgrades slow down the system.
Lab instruments are no different. To ensure that the upgrade does not hamper the functioning of your system, it is imperative to know that the hardware and the instrument are compatible with the upgrade. Hence, before jumping the gun and executing an upgrade, we evaluate the existing system, both hardware, and software.
For instance, in the case of the above customer, on the face of it, the upgrade seemed like a simple PC Operating System update from Windows 7 and Windows XP to Windows 10. However, on deeper scrutiny, our engineers noted that just upgrading the Operating System of the PCs that regulated the instrument would not suffice. The instrument’s software needed an upgrade as well. A hasty service would have led to this key upgrade getting overlooked.
In order to deliver an accurate evaluation, our trained engineers, check the compatibility of the three major components of the system. Here’s how they go about it.
- Checkpoint 1: Is the hardware compatible with the software upgrade required?
If yes, we move to checkpoint 2. If not, we go for a hardware upgrade first. - Checkpoint 2: Is the Operating System compatible with the software upgrade required?
If yes, we move to checkpoint 3. If not, we do an Operating System upgrade too. - Checkpoint 3*: Is the Instrument Software compatible with the upgrade required?
If yes, there’s no need for any upgrades at all. If not, then we do an instrument software upgrade.
*In the case of complex scientific analytical instruments, we also check if the MS Office tools need an upgrade before moving on to Checkpoint 3.
Step 2: The Acceptance
Once the evaluation is complete, we share our assessment along with the next steps and their implications with you. At all times, we make sure that you are on the same page as us, and that we have a shared understanding of the Scope of Work, which we record in a document and share with you to sign off on.
Step 3: The Execution
After we’ve gone over the scope with you, we assist and release the upgrades as per the requirement and share details regarding the warranty of each of the software/hardware upgrades.
Step 4: The Support
We don’t leave our customers mid-way. So, our services don’t end after a one-time upgrade. Instead, we keep a check on the upgrade timelines and due dates for you so that you don’t miss out on any new development. We’ll contact you as and when any upgrades are required as per the lifetime of the technology. Not just that, our customer support is always around in case you face any issues due to the upgrade.
The Why
As we said earlier, upgrades today are indispensable. Upgrades are often required as a part of IT compliance, or to enhance the data security of your system. You may also need an upgrade to make your system compatible with the latest technology.
Needless to say, upgrades are a crucial part of the efficient functioning of your laboratory. Hence, they’ve out to be done right. Here’s are three reasons you should choose Gulf Bio Analytical for upgrade services.
